William of Orange
Discover William of Orange, an outstanding Orange Bearded Iris from our Award Winning Collection of British Bearded Irises.
Building Your Collection
This is one of the best orange irises available today from the spectacular new range of ‘oranges’ produced during Bryan Dodsworth’s final period of concentrated hybridising. Enjoy a truly outstanding iris with great depth and intensity of colour. However, if you want impact, this is the plant for you, and if you like hot colours, this iris is definitely the business. I would never be without it.
This outstanding Orange Bearded Iris is hardy, bulks up well and flowers mid-season. Plant as a single group, or in blocks/drifts of the same colour. Musky orange scent.
Mixing with other Colours
These ‘Dodsworth’ irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris. Understand why these single colour irises known as ‘selfs’ mix so well with other colours groups to give you real scope to design your own distinctive colour palette.
Mix William of Orange with other ‘Hots’, Reds, magentas, browns and to great effect with ‘Softs’, the pinks and pale yellows to see the sheer vibrancy of these ‘Dodsworth’ irises. Remember the ‘Pinks’ in this context as they span the early/mid/ late flowering period, giving you so many options to extend the iris season. Eileen Louise flowers early, Catherine Seville in mid-season, and both Sherwood Pink and Century Pink are late, very late.
Registered by Bryan Dodsworth in 1999. 38” (97 cm) Ruffled orange self; beards orange. Musky Orange scent.
