Givendale
Discover Givendale, an Amber-Brown Bearded Iris from our Collection of Award Winning British Bearded Irises.
Building your Iris Collection
A highly unusual Iris, with a striking distinctive ‘tan/amber’ colour and characteristic ‘Dodsworth’ form and branching. Something appealing and very different. Use this Amber-Brown Bearded Iris to extend your Iris Collection. Early Flowering.
Named after one of the hidden gems in the East Riding of Yorkshire, with a simple church at Great Givendale at the head of a secret valley.
Great as a stand alone iris in a group or plant in blocks for real impact. Early flowering.
Mixing with other Colours
These ‘Dodsworth’ irises combine clear clean colours, great branching and perfect flower shape to create a ‘Perfect’ Iris. Understand why these single colour irises known as ‘selfs’ mix so well with other colours groups to give you real scope to design your own distinctive colour palette.
Plant this distinctive Amber-Brown Bearded Iris with other ‘Hots’, reds, magentas, oranges and to great effect with ‘Softs’, the pinks and pale yellows to see the sheer vibrancy of these ‘Dodsworth’ irises.
An early flowering, and goes particularly well with Lime Soda that flowers at the same time, Red Pike that follows, and with the early ‘pinks’ (see below). Underrated.
Planting with Pinks
Remember how useful ‘Pinks’ are in this context, spanning the early/mid/ late flowering periods. Because of this they give you so many options to extend the iris season. Eileen Louise flowers early, Catherine Seville in mid-season, and both Sherwood Pinkand Century Pink are late, very late.
Registered by Bryan Dodsworth in 1989. 42” (107cm). Ruffled Tan self; bronze beard.
